Our Stance on the Social Media Ban

Concerns over proposed social media ban for under-16s

Youthline is speaking up about a possible ban on social media for under-16s, saying it could make things worse for young people who use these platforms to get mental health support. Every day, young people reach out to Youthline through social media because it’s where they feel safe, seen and heard. Taking that away could cut them off from the help they need, especially in rural areas or for those who feel isolated.

Instead of a ban, Youthline wants real conversations that include young people and focus on what actually works. They’re calling for better education, stronger platform rules, and real action to keep people safe online. Youthline is also asking young people to share their views in their upcoming State of the Generation research, so the people most affected can shape the solutions.
