– 6-8 meetings per year (with time between meetings for reading board papers and decision making, as required)
– Meetings are usually in person but can be attended remotely as needed
About Us
Youthline Auckland Charitable Trust has been supporting young people in Aotearoa for 55 years. Our Kaupapa/Purpose is to strengthen hauora through youth voice and youth choice and Moemoeā/Vision is that Young People are empowered within their communities.
We provide essential services, including a free helpline, mentoring, counselling, and programmes inschools and the community, to empower young people and enhance their well-being. As a values-led organisation, we are committed to demonstrating manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, kotahitanga and aroha- tika-pono in everything we do. Two of our five strategic priorities are that Youthline will demonstrate a practical commitment to Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi and will have clinically and culturally, evidence based best practice services and programmes with a focus on equity.
Youthline Auckland is the backbone organisation for a network of six independent Youthline legal entities working together under a collective impact model across the country.
We are currently seeking applications from individuals interested in becoming a Trustee to help guide and support our mahi.
About the role
Are you passionate about empowering young people and supporting their well-being? As a Trustee, you will play a key governance role in ensuring Youthline continues to provide high-quality youth mental health and development services to young people across Aotearoa. You will contribute to strategic leadership, fundraising, community engagement, financial oversight, risk management, ensuring the organisation operates effectively and in alignment with its Vision. As part of the Board, you will also help strengthen Youthline’s external relationships and advocate for youth mental health, wellbeing and development. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in:
– Lived experience of the challenges facing young people in Aotearoa, or experience working with young people, in particular Māori and/or Pasifika communities• Fundraising with different communities and networks
– Digital transformation and technology Trustees attend regular board meetings, contribute to strategic initiatives, and support Youthline’s purpose. This is a voluntary role, however the impact you will make is invaluable.
About you
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
– A strong commitment to Youthline’s values of Whanaungatanga (Connection & Community),Kotahitanga (Unity & Diversity), Manaakitanga (Care & Respect), and Aroha – Tika – Pono(Compassion, Accountability, Integrity)
– A strategic mindset and the ability to contribute to governance-level decision-making• An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for youth services in Aotearoa
– Experience in relevant sector and with relevant expertise we are currently seeking.• Strength in bringing the voice of Māori, Pasifika, Rainbow or Asian communities to our discussions, acknowledging the disparity in both experience and representation more widely
– The ability to build relationships, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and advocate for youth well-being
Previous governance experience is beneficial but not essential, as we encourage a range of experience on the board. What matters most is your commitment to supporting young people and contributing to Youthline’s purpose.
